52/52 Challenge :: Sanded Church Pew

M Wall Church-Pew

I’m excited to share my Church Pew! I had this for many years in my Entryway…..painted it several times…red, yellowish, white, and maybe another color at some time. I love this pew!

Earlier this year I sent it to the backyard so I could bring in a smaller, classier, bench so the pew spent a few months in the backyard. Snow + Rain + Outside + Not-covered-very-well = Paint bubbling and tearing right off – exposing beautiful wood! I got out the trusty sander, bought paint stripper and sandpaper, and got to work. It took a bit of work but it was worth it!

I was to impatient to get ALL the paint off, as you can see in some areas. No worries because my home is not about being perfect…trust me!

This is the before and after with the other bench. What do you think? Which one do you like?

    1. Thank you! I got it about 8 years ago from the local classifieds. I tried the other bench but the pew just fits so well in this space. I’m loving the bare wood so much!

  1. Just found you through The Dedicated House. Wow I love what you have done with your pew. I was lucky to find a beautiful pew a few months ago but it is varnished and I love the look yours has. You have inspired me to strip and sand mine. Did you use a finish on it or left it natural? Thanks, your new follower.

    1. Congrats on scoring a pew! They are hard to find these days. I used a paint stripper….I had a few coats of paint on it. eek! I left it all natural, no oil or varnish. I may try mineral oil tho, maybe. ;) I’d love to see your pew when it’s done. Let me know if you have any questions. :)

  2. What are the dimensions of the church pew? We’re getting ready to move into our new house and I can’t seem to find a church pew I like for our entry…I LOVE this one! We’re considering building one. Thanks for your help!

      1. Thanks so much! I’m thinking we might
do 60″ instead of 72″…I’ll definitely
send a picture of our finished product!

  3. In love with everything in this photo. Great job, I want your pew. And all those M’s since that’s my last name monogram too…been collecting them for a couple years and am planning on doing something similar when I have enough. Thanks for the amazing inspiration! xo
