Inside the studio: Shop Update

I’ve been working so hard on getting my shop open (see the 9th&Mayne Etsy Banner above) that I put blogging on the back burner….well, I started thinking that if it were me, I’d want all the juicy details about opening a shop. I’m kinda a nosy person. So, I’ll start posting what’s going. The details might not be ‘juicy’ but it’ll be fun and exciting news, at least to me.

So here’s what I’ve been up to:

1.  I finally got my Newsletter sign-up form put in and the newsletter is ready to go. yay! I’ll be sending out our 1st monthly newsletter with a 25% off coupon, very soon.

If anyone knows how to over-think something, it’s me. I must have tried 10 different email marketing sites before finally settling on Mad Mimi. Very easy to use and very simple.

2.  Product photography, yikes! I bought the book, The Crafter’s Guide to Taking Great Photos. It’s a fantastic book and I learned a ton. It has great ideas about taking great shots of my products and I was super excited until I starting shooting my products. Seriously, it’s harder than I thought. I have a great camera, Nikon D90, so it’s not the camera. It’s totally me, as you can see…..boring! I didn’t get the lighting right but I will.

3.  Envelopes. Yep, envelopes. I had a hard time finding envelopes I loved. I didn’t want to order them online because I wanted to touch and feel them. I finally found some and I’m very happy with them. I’m still looking for Kraft Paper envelopes tho.

So that’s what I’ve been up to. I’m ubber excited to open my shop, yes, I said ubber.

Do you have any advice on product photography?
